Kareena Kapoor on Aging: Why She Chooses Fitness Over Botox & Skin Treatments

Kareena Kapoor

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has a refreshingly different perspective on aging. Rather than trying to fight the natural aging process through cosmetic procedures, she says she prefers to focus on nutrition, movement, strength and staying physically independent.

Speaking at the launch of Rujuta Diwekar’s book The Common Sense Diet, Kareena discussed why she would rather invest her time in healthy habits than regularly pursue treatments such as Botox.

The actress highlighted simple lifestyle practices, including eating traditional foods such as ghee and khichdi, walking, practicing Surya Namaskars and incorporating weight and strength training into her routine.

For Kareena, Fitness Is About How She Feels

Kareena’s approach to fitness goes beyond appearance. Instead of focusing primarily on looking younger or maintaining a particular image, she is more concerned about how her body feels and what she is able to do.

For her, staying active means maintaining the ability to work, move comfortably and handle everyday activities independently—even as she gets older.

Ageing Is a Number, She Says

Kareena has continued working through different stages of her career and says she hopes to remain active well into her later years.

Her goal is not simply to look fit. She wants to maintain enough strength and mobility to continue working and living independently, rather than becoming dependent on others for everyday tasks.

That perspective offers a broader definition of fitness. Being healthy is not necessarily about having a certain body shape or looking younger than your age. It can also mean being able to walk comfortably, carry your belongings, climb stairs, travel and continue doing the activities you enjoy.

Why Strength Training Matters

One of the notable aspects of Kareena’s routine is her focus on weight and strength training.

For many people, particularly women, fitness is often associated mainly with weight loss. However, maintaining strength and mobility can be just as important, especially as people get older.

Walking, strength exercises, mobility work and activities such as yoga or Surya Namaskar can all contribute to an active lifestyle. The right routine, of course, depends on an individual’s age, fitness level and overall health.

What Kareena’s “Ghee and Khichdi” Comment Really Means

Kareena’s mention of ghee and khichdi should not necessarily be interpreted as a specific celebrity diet.

Rather than labelling individual foods as automatically healthy or unhealthy, a balanced approach to nutrition looks at the overall eating pattern. A varied diet that provides essential nutrients, along with adequate hydration and foods suited to an individual’s lifestyle, can be part of a healthy routine.

Traditional foods can certainly have a place in that approach, but no single food should be treated as a complete solution for health.

A Different Way to Think About Ageing

Kareena’s comments also highlight a broader conversation about how women are encouraged to think about aging.

There is nothing wrong with choosing Botox, skincare treatments or cosmetic procedures if someone wants them. Those decisions are personal.

But aging well does not have to be measured only by how young someone looks.

A more practical question may be: How well can I live at my age?

Being able to stay active, maintain strength, move comfortably, work, travel and enjoy everyday life can be just as meaningful as maintaining a youthful appearance.

For Kareena Kapoor, the focus appears to be less on stopping the signs of aging and more on preparing her body to keep doing the things she loves at every stage of life.
